The course exits the field onto a brief road section - which will be well marshalled - and then it heads over the Wireworks Bridge and along the former railway track for 200m or so.  It then forks left up the stone staircase, and keeps going up!
The first half of the ascent is up a steep and rocky path, and then the upper section is up a forestry road.  On the far side of the top Offa's Dyke path there will be a turnaround marker.
The route back down dog-legs to the left along the forest road, and then follows the Shorncliff Climbers Path back down to the top of the stone staircase, from where the course retraces itself over the bridge and along the road to a downhill finish in the Fete Field and to huge applause.

Safety information

The route starts along a short road section and then 200m of former railway track. It then forks left up a stone staircase, then up a steep and rocky path. In summer conditions this should not be slippery. The upper section of the ascent is up a forestry road. On the far side of the top Offa's Dyke path there will be a turnaround marker. The route back down dog-legs to the left along the forest road, and then follows the narrow steeply undulating Shorncliff Climbers Path. This section has significant trip hazards and is exposed to a steep drop through woods to one side so care will be required, particularly at speed. The course returns back down to descend the stone staircase, again where care is required particularly at speed. It then retraces itself over the bridge and along the road.
